Springfield defeated Mineral Ridge by a score of 5-0 in the second game of a doubleheader at Springfield High School.

Sophomore pitcher Abby Joseph led the way as she allowed only four hits. Joseph struck out ten batters and had one hit batsman.

Joseph paced Springfield’s offense with a single and a pair of douibles from her lead off spot in the order. She also drove in two runs and scored twice. Marlie Applegarth added a pair of singles and drove in three. Jacqueline Kish belted a pair of singles and sister Kat Kish hit a double to round out the Tigers eight-hit attack.

Joseph led off the game for Springfield with a single. Makenzie Capouellez laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance Joseph to second. Marlie Applegarth then laced a single to left, driving in Joseph with the Tigers first run of the game.

In the third inning, the Tigers scored two more runs as the trio of Joseph, Capouellez and Applegarth went to work again. Joseph led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on a passed ball. Capouellez drew a walk and stole second base. Applegarth then smacked a single, driving in Joseph and Capouellez for her second and third RBI of the game.

The Tigers scored their final two runs of the game in the 6th inning. Pinch hitter Kat Kish led off the inning with a double. Carlee Bacon followed with a great sacrifice bunt, sending Kish to third. The next batter, Kaelen Yemma drew a walk and stole second base. Abby Joseph then hit her second double of the game, driving in Kish and Yemma.

In the top of the seventh, Joseph set down the Rams in one, two three order to seal the victory.

With the win, the Lady Tigers improved their record to 7-6 on the season. In conference play, they are 4-4.

The Tigers next game is at home against Sebring on Monday, April 15.
