The Springfield Lady Tigers won their sectional championship with a 8-4 win over the Lady Pirates of Southeast High School. Jacqueline Kish pitched the complete game and picked up the win for Springfield. Kish scattered eight hits, struck out nine and walked one.
Springfield had a balanced offense as each player in the starting line-up got at least one hit. Marlie Applegarth led the way with two singles and a double. Applegarth also drove in two runs and scored once. Pitcher Jacqueline Kish helped her own cause with three singles, driving in two. Kaelen Yemma hit a solo home run, a towering shot, down the left-field line. Makenzy Capouellez, Mya Duskey, Cassie Bacon, Molly Pontius, Abby Joseph and Carlee Bacon each hit a single to round out Springfield’s thirteen-hit attack. Capouellez scored twice, Joseph drove in two runs and Duskey drove in one.
With the win, Springfield’s overall season record improved to 18-3.
Springfield’s next tournament game will be in the district semi-finals at South Range High School, on Monday, May 14 at 6:00 PM, against Girard.
