Springfield girls soccer team won their second district championship in the last 3 years Thursday night. The Tigers won 3-1 over Akron Manchester, improving to 18-1 on the season. Manchester’s Emma King opened the scoring giving them a 1-0 lead. The Tiger’s answered immediately as Gracie Venturella fed Kylee Kosek who hit the shot from just outside the 18. The teams went into halftime tied up 1-1. Venturella connected with Kosek again in the second half as the Tigers went up 2-1. Kosek then played the ball through to Kaila LaMorticella who made a nice move in the box to free herself before putting the ball in the back of the net for the 3-1 score. Rebecca Catlos made 6 saves for Springfield.
Sharon Saikaly had 6 saves for Manchester and Madison Schaber has the assist.
Springfield will play Bishop Rosecrans on Tuesday night at a site to be determined.
